Lacemaking Tuition

Jan Gardiner is an accomplished teacher of lacemaking who has been studying lace and lacemaking for nearly 35 years. Jan has been teaching lacemaking for over 30 years. Currently Jan holds regular weekly class, one day workshops and residential weekend schools.

The LACE: As you like it format has proved to be very popular with the students. It means that you can bring any lacemaking project along to the classes that you need Jan’s expertise for. All the classes and workshops are mixed ability and beginners are always especially welcome.

This section lists the venues and events where we will have our supplies on display and/or giving the talk or teaching a workshop, where Jan will be on hand to help resolve those niggling technical difficulties you may have experienced.

Jan is an enthusiastic lacemaker and designer and has taught a wide variety of lacemaking skills at home and abroad for over 30 years. Jan covers all the English lace types, together with some continental styles, as well as contemporary and experimental lacemaking.

Her classes are friendly and supportive with each student working on their preferred project.

Beginners will be led towards successful lacemaking with a series of patterns designed to enable them to gain the necessary techniques required to make beautiful lace. Details about my Weekly Classes, Sunday Workshops and Residential Courses are shown below.

Classes are held on Wednesdays (term time only) in the Hutton Village Hall Hutton Weston Super Mare. We start at 13.30 and finish at 16.30. The fee is £9.00 per person per class. Places are restricted to 12. To book your place please contact us

Sunday workshops are held in Porton Village Hall Porton Salisbury and Hutton Village Hall Hutton Weston Super Mare.

These workshops are an opportunity to have the time to look at some aspect of lacemaking new to you, start a new pattern or finish off something nearly completed. Beginners are always welcome. The plan of the day is to make lace in a friendly and supportive atmosphere with Jan's expertise available to help where needed. Just bring your project and your lunch. Tea, Coffee, Biscuits etc are provided.

Join Jan to have fun making lace for a day.

They both start at 10:00 and finish at 16:00
Porton fee £35.00 per person per workshop
Hutton fee £30.00 per person per workshop
Places are restricted to 12
To book your place on either workshop please contact us

Residential Workshops are held in Somerset, Wiltshire and Cumbria at total of 5 times a year. These Weekend Schools are residential in comfortable and friendly environments. They begin on Friday evenings and finish after lunch on Sunday. There is an average of 12+ hours teaching provided during the weekend. This gives the student time to work on more complex projects than in a one day workshop.

Numbers are restricted to a maximum of 12 and are taken quickly.

The fees vary so please contact us for more details.
